Sensei Scott has studied Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate for
36 years. He
began his study and training in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan
Karate at the age of 12 in 1980 with Frank Hargrove. Sensei Scott trained with him
for 25 years until
the fall of 2005.
Sensei Scott has studied under
Eberhard G. Welch, Kyoshim Hachidan (8th Dan) since June of 2006.
He currently holds the rank of
Rokudan (6th Degree Black Belt, 7/29/2014) in Shorin-Ryu Karate-do and
the rank of Gondan (5th degree Black Belt, 11/21/2004) in Ryukyu Kobudo
(Okinawan Weapons). Sensei Scott is a member of the Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan under
its founder Shugoro Nakazato, Judan (10th Dan), Hanshi and his son Minoru Nakazato, Judan (10th Dan), Hanshi.
Hanshi Minoru Nakazato presented Sensei Scott with his Shihan Certificate on 8/2/2014.
Sensei Scott has taught for 22 years, beginning in 1994. He opened his first karate club in March of 1996.
Sensei Scott opened his dojo in the Glendale / Hidenwood / Riverside area in March of 1997. Scott Hayes Karate is the longest, continously active, Okinawan Karate School in Newport News.
Sensei Scott received the following titles: Shihan 8/2/2104; Renshi 2/27/2005; Shihan-Dai 2/28/1999;
Sensei Scott has taught seminars and held camps in Virginia (29), Tennesee (2), Canada (4), and Bermuda (2).
Currently 65 of Scott Hayes'
students have earned their black
belts in Shorin-Ryu Karate-do. 1
